Valentines views: meet Simon and Yannick

Today it seems to be quite easy to quickly see what another person is about. You just take it to Instagram, look at their photos, and quickly get a sense of the interests, work, and all in all life of someone you may not even have ever met.

And if your job is to actually take or compose pictures, looking at someone else’s feed becomes even more telling. Photographer Yannick Schuette and Stylist Simon Winkelmüller met in exactly that way, by first noticing each other on the social media platform, of course only with a work collaboration in mind, but quickly discovered their views, tastes, and worlds actually go quite well together. One takes the pictures, the other one makes the people in them look their most stylish. Though Simon and Yannick try to keep their work and private life a bit separate, the two often can’t help but discuss their ideas together, creating new shared dreams in the process – and why shouldn’t they, doesn’t adding more layers make an image even more interesting?

Get to know the two creative heads below, as we asked Simon and Yannick a few questions about their bond and what makes their relationship ever so special.

Simon on Yannick

How did you meet?
We met over Instagram, but at first it was just about work. Well, first…

What was the first thing you noticed about him?
His hipster-y Maroniverkäufer-Mütze” and his red cheeked face.

Was there an exact moment you knew this is it “?
Yes, at least a moment when I thought this could be something”. That was when we moved from dinner to drinks.

What is the one thing you most admire about him now?
His honesty. Even though that can be pretty hard at times.

What is probably the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning?
Hard to say. He always thinks about something else. I often notice that his mind just wanders off during a conversation and his eyes kind of loose track, so I never really know what’s on his mind.

What is one trait that sets him apart from others?
Cuteness (in all senses). And honesty.

What have you learned from him?
Getting along with a German accent and words like Frikadelle”, Klöße”, etc. When it comes to business, but also private life, he helped me to strengthen my ability to select and prioritize certain things.

How would he spend the perfect summer day?
With an analogue camera, on a beach, with a gin tonic, a truck (with lots of juice)… and me of course.

If he could change anything in the world, what would that be?
Banning bloggers and overrated, stupid, superficial social media trends.

How would you describe what he does for a living?
Photographing people and everything around him, mostly for passion, sometimes for money.

How much do your work life and your private life intertwine?
We have a similar aesthetic and always try to push each other to the next level. We also share a lot of our ides with each other and try make them reality together. But I want to keep a (slightly) strict separation between business and private. I once told him: I want to date a human being. Not just a photographer!“

What’s his ultimate dream/goal?
Freedom. Independence. Living for passion. And money. But just as a tool to fulfil the rest.

And lastly: What makes him special overall?
His mix of introversion and willpower. His innocence paired with clear focus.

Yannick on Simon

How did you meet?
I found Simon on Instagram and thought his work as a stylist was pretty nice. We got in touch and when I came to Vienna some months ago we met for a business dinner to talk about business stuff.

What was the first thing you noticed about him?
That he totally didn’t fit the picture I created of him in my head through social media and our first little conversations before.

Was there an exact moment you knew this is it”?
Not an exact moment, it was more of a feeling that developed quite fast.

What is the one thing you most admire about him now?
He got the talent to calm me down.

What is probably the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning?
Just 5 more minutes!

What is one trait that sets him apart from others?
He’s trustable.

What have you learned from him?
A lot of funny German” words you only use in Austria.

How would he spend the perfect summer day?
Hanging on a beach with a book in the left and a mojito in his right hand.

If he could change anything in the world, what would that be?
World peace.

How would you describe what he does for a living?
Dressing models perfectly to help the photographers tell their stories and ideas. And dressing people to create and underline their personality.

How much do your work life and your private life intertwine?
100%. Sometimes he has to stop me talking when I get hysteric about future projects, dreams, and other business stuff.

What’s his ultimate dream/goal?
To fulfil his own (and very unique and special) dreams and create in a non-commercial way.

And lastly: What makes him special overall?
Everything seems easy, natural, undisguised, honest, and totally easy going between us.
