Valentines views: meet Sebastian and Rutchelle

With our world becoming more and more digital, only few believe that between the millions of faces and links we see on a daily basis there is still something special and honest to be discovered.

That we can still find that significant other in the midst of dating websites and seemingly frivolous messenger conversations. Sebastian Schager, an artist currently showing his work between Miami and Vienna as well as putting shows up as one of the curators of Jan Arnold Gallery in Vienna’s MQ, and his girlfriend Rutchelle Salde, a Vienna based fashion girl, are what you might call a perfect example for the things that could happen if you give the online world a try: Digital affection turning into analogue love. After first meeting and messaging on Facebook, the two quickly discovered their shared interests for art, fashion, and design, the things still forming the basis of their relationship. With their creative worlds colliding on a daily basis, Sebastian and Rutchelle are no strangers to making your work and private life harmonize perfectly. In fact, they prefer to embrace the combination of everything they love individually – to truly make their relationship the best of both worlds, no matter if on- or offline.

Read what they had to say about their unique bond and the way they started to see the world through each other’s eyes below, as we asked Sebastian and Rutchelle a few questions about love, life, and everything in between.

Rutchelle on Sebastian

How did you meet?
Since we live in the digital age more than ever now — no, not Tinder but we first started chatting on Facebook and our first date was at a Museum.

What was the first thing you noticed about him?
His blue eyes, his striking cheekbones and his hands. Hands are important!

Was there an exact moment you knew this is it”?
I don’t think you get a feeling for it, it just kind of happens.

What is the one thing you most admire about him now?
The way he talks and the way he sees the world. To me, he is one of the most intelligent human beings.

What is probably the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning?
Wondering if he should take a relaxing bath for 2 – 3 hours.

What is the first thing he notices about another person?
The way someone speaks and the way their lips move.

What is one trait that sets him apart from others?
He has this weird kind of humour which I utterly love.

What have you learned from him?
How to download a movie or a tv show from your smartphone to your NAS and then wirelessly play it on your beamer.

How would he spend the perfect summer day?
With me. And beer.

What’s his biggest motivation/inspiration in life?
His family. And Velazquez and Caravaggio I guess.

If he could change anything in the world, what would that be?
No hatred, just pure love.

How would you describe what he does for a living?
Art all the way! From being a curator, having his own gallery and most of all being an artist himself.

How much do your work life and your private life intertwine?
Well it depends, you know there’s always a fine line between fashion and art. So when we talk about our day, we always ask what the other one thinks about this or that idea or how he/she would change it to make it better… which sometimes ends in a little fight.

What’s his ultimate dream/goal?
Being a daddy and to paint for the rest of his life.

And lastly: What makes him special overall?
His sense of humour, his intelligence, his talent for good cooking, the way he understands me and loves me with all my flaws.

With the boat trip we did in the Philippines a year ago.

How much do your work life and your private life intertwine?
A lot since I always have to bring my work home as an artist and she’s always crazily researching and scrolling.

What’s her ultimate dream/goal?
It’s not money, it’s not the third PhD, but a big family and a lot of beautiful laughing people around her.

And lastly: What makes her special overall?
The eyes, the nose, the lips, the jokes, the ass, the soul, the honesty, the style, the hair, the love.… everything, almost everything.
